  • What exactly is Barberry?

    The fruit of the barberry is sealed and non-blooming, becoming green then yellow until turning totally red and vivid when fully ripe. The fruit is fleshy, round, and sour in flavor. In October and November, the fruit is ready to harvest. Long winters are not a problem for this plant. There are several species of barberry, the most common of which is seedless barberry. Orally ingested barberry, also known as rock barberry, seeded barberry, blue barberry, or water barberry in different parts of the world. There are two kernels in each seed.

    Taurine, oxycontin, and berberine are alkaloids found in this plant. The root of the barberry contains more alkaloids than the rest of the plant. There are resins, mucilage, and pectic compounds in the buds and roots of barberry, in addition to some sugar. Other alkaloids found in the root bark include 2-bamine, palmatine, cilobamine, and veratrine, in addition to oxycontin.
