Borage (Echium) is the name of a genus of borage and is one of the most important medicinal plants in traditional Iranian medicine.
Borage flowers have two famous genera in Iran that should not be confused with each other: cattle flower flower (from Echium genus), (Arabic لسان الثور) grows in the foothills of the Alborz Mountains and borage plant (from Borage genus) (in Arabic Marmakhoz ) Which goes to Isfahan, Azerbaijan and other cities of Iran and other countries and is mistakenly known as the tongue of the cow. Both plants belong to the genus Borage, but differ in genus.
Echium can be called the Persian borage flower and Borage the European borage plant, because this mistake, which has been misleading doctors and pharmacists for several centuries, can be eliminated. These two plants are different, only their flowers are slightly similar.
The medicinal properties of these two plants are slightly different. Iranian borage flowers are larger than European borage flowers. The borage flower is azure and resembles a pomegranate flower and its seeds are round and glazed and can be found in the mountains of Alborz. Borage grows in Isfahan, Azerbaijan and other cities of Iran, has small azure and circular flowers. The European borage plant was brought from North Africa to Spain, where it was grown and introduced into traditional European medicine. One of the properties of European borage is that it increases sweat and urine.
Borage is an annual herbaceous plant whose stem grows to a height of 60 cm.
